Sustaining the Policy Governance Model Effectiveness Over Time

The initial presentation/introduction to this topic will address

  • Review of the initial PG model implementation process: discovery, exploration, policy development, launch, initiation of monitoring
  • Ongoing cycle of monitoring, evaluating performance, reviewing and renewing strategic policy guidance
  • Challenges to sustainment, including turnover of board members, CEO turnover, turbulence in intra-board relations, turbulence in the board-CEO relationship, and the natural ebb and flow of group development/effectiveness
  • Periodic review of alignment with and renewal of commitment to PG principles

Some (not all) of the questions that will stimulate discussion include:
  • What additional challenges might a board experience to sustaining the PG model?
  • What are some symptoms of complacency that might creep in for a PG board?
  • What are the signs of a high-performing board?
  • Where is your board in its own development toward becoming a high-performing team?
